Five facts about you that people won’t know about you. Can you juggle? Ride a bike with no hands? Drink beer upside down? Something unusual… GO! 1. I have three bachelor degrees and use none of them. 2. I used to go rock climbing but after an ear infection I got dreadful vertigo and now I’m scared of heights. 3. I’m a tech junkie and have every tech gadget known to exist, well almost… 4. I hate pizza 5.I can’t cook …no not a thing… Five facts about your newest book that people won’t know. Some background history on one of your characters maybe? Maybe it was going to be called something completely different to start out with? Is it the same genre it started out as?... 1. Lily’s name started out as Daisy 2. I set it in the USA originally, Texas, then realized the location of the inspiration just wouldn’t transfer so it went back to Britain 3. It was always erotic contemporary romance, no change there and nothing to report. 4. The shop doesn’t exist but is based on a composite of about five new age shops I’ve been in. 5. The gallery owner John Walker was inspired by my current boss Five facts about your next book… Name, genre, expected date of release… 1. The Old Star 2. Contemporary erotic romance with a twist of paranormal 3. Darker than I usually write because of the male lead’s circumstances but still a romance with HEA 4. To be published by Hot Ink Press August 23, 2013 5. The main male lead was going to be called Evan originally but he didn’t like that so now he’s called Owen. Three tips that you think might be useful for other authors… anything you want. It could be, to write a certain amount every day, only write after midnight and never get Gizmo wet (Sorry, that’s Gremlins not writers! My bad.) Maybe it’s some information that was given to you that has helped your process… 1. If you want to write do it, never be put off. 2. Learn from your mistakes but don’t beat yourself up over them, just move on. 3. Remember that it’s a harsh world out there for writers and often good books are overlooked because there are so many, so just enjoy yourself. ♥♥ Don't forget that there's still time to enter the competition on her blog for a $10 Amazon gift card and a kindle copy of The Winter Girl. The story/plot.
The Winter Girl , releasing from Hot Ink Press June 14 Lily Prescott is only just over a relationship break up when she decides to take up residence in a house left to her by her recently deceased grandmother. Her corporate law job takes a back seat as she licks her wounds in the small country town. She looks around the main shopping street and discovers people who will befriend her, but she also runs into the town’s most eligible bachelor and secret bad boy, Starr Forrester. Loved for his lifelong association with the town, Starr hides his methods for staying single well from his friends. He’s nearly thirty, gorgeous, a designer, owns a business and on the lookout for his ‘Winter Girl’…. Will it be Lily? What is a ‘Winter girl’? Fun, sex, romance and a little twist of the paranormal, makes this a must read. 18+ What gave you the idea? Lately I’ve been sent to buy and bring back items for the antiques emporium where I work. The Winter Girl is inspired by a place I stopped for lunch. The country town is in the middle of a huge stone circle and surrounding ring ditch. A road runs right through and is quite busy, but in good weather, the place buzzes with tourists from all over the world. There is a main street with little shops and cafés. It’s not quite as big as the place I create for the setting of the book, but it’s gorgeously quaint and steeped in history. I found the characters of my book unfolding in my mind as I walked around the place, and especially my leading male character Starr Forrester. I would have loved to meet a real Starr Forrester there, but didn’t. I’m in love with him at the moment he’s so sexy, creative, clever, and naughty… There was a new age shop there on the main street and it had rows of trays with many different semi-precious stones in them. There were little cards with the meaning and properties of each stone printed on there, which added to my inspiration. The book has a touch of magic, but is contemporary erotic romance. What genre is it? Erotic contemporary romance with a twist of magic. Who is your favourite character? I do love Starr the male lead but actually I love Lily too she’s very strong, and knows what she wants. There’s another character too, Jen, she’s a friendly person who embodies lots of friendship qualities for the book. And worst? I don’t have a worst character. (Now I'm intrigued!) What are your hopes for it? Well…I’d like it read and loved by everyone of course☺ What’s the next project that you’re working on? I’m working on an anthology call right now. An erotic romance shifter short. Something I surprised myself by writing. What’s the best piece of advice that you have been given in regards to your writing? To keep going against all the odds and any negative views, that if I love writing then I need to do it, and that’s true, I become unhappy when I’m not writing. * * * * * * * * * * * * * ♥♥ I hope that you enjoyed learning about Elodie and her new book, she'll be back tomorrow to give us some more insights into her writing ♥♥ ![]() Today on the blog I have someone a bit different for you. I grew up in a very small town in Connecticut, one where you pretty much knew everyone and they all knew you. When did you start writing? I started writing more journal like pieces during high school and then during my undergraduate degree I originally wanted to be a journalist. It wasn’t until my graduate degree where I started writing creative pieces including prose poetry, flash fiction and novels. What made you start writing? To be honest, writing was always a therapeutic activity for me, a way to work out all the confusion in my brain. During college, my love for reading, literature and writing blossomed and I felt that I had stories in my head that I wanted to share with others. Is it something that you have always wanted to do? Of course it is! Literature has always been an escape for me during my life. I was the kid with the book sitting in the corner rather than being a social butterfly. I always wanted to write my own novels and it wasn’t until after I pursued my degree in English and Writing that I felt confident enough to do it. What is your favourite genre to read, and do you have any favourite books or authors you would like to recommend? I enjoy mysteries and romance. I currently enjoy more erotica than anything else, but I go through phases J All of my favourite authors are the classics (at least to us) but include Hardy, Bronte, Ibsen, Shaw. Contemporary authors include Faulkner, Twain (not so contemporary) Tim O’Brien. Hot authors I like today are Tiffany Reisz, Maya banks, Sylvia Day and many, many more. What about to write? I primarily write erotica, but have a contemporary romance in progress and another idea brewing, which will be worked on after I finish my Devoured Club Series. Do you write full time? If not, what do you do? I wish I could write full-time, if I can manage half time I’m doing okay. I work a full-time job and am a wife, mommy and student. Writing occurs primarily when I can fit it in. Do you ever base your characters on anyone that you know, or are they solely from your imagination? Mostly my characters are from my imagination although I think all writers bring in characteristics of themselves or people they know. My character in my first novel and the lead in the second both possess characteristics, wants and desires of a certain person that I know, however, the character isn’t based solely on them. ABOUT THE BOOKTell us about your latest book. The story/plot.
My current series actually revolves around a trio of Doms that own a BDSM club in Boston. Devour Me is about how an emotionally abused girl finds her way into the lifestyle and comes to terms with her desires and abuse. Consume Me, which is scheduled to come out in the Fall, revolves around two-self professed “singles” and their attempts to fight their attractions to one another while exploring the desires of BDSM, all while a stalker wreaks havoc on the female lead. Empower Me, scheduled to come out next spring, is about the final Dom and his need to face the mistakes of his past. What gave you the idea? I had the idea to focus a series on a club, and chronicle the issues of the three top Dominants/owners and the issues and insecurities that they face. I enjoy the idea of the entwined story lines. What genre is it? Erotica with BDSM elements Who is your favourite character? So far my favourite character is Marcus, our hero in book two. And worst? I currently don’t have a worst character, although if I had to choose it would have been a supporting character in the first book. What are your hopes for it? Honestly, the first book has sold more copies than I’d ever imagined. My hopes are that the series will be entertaining to readers and that they enjoy the novels, although I know not everyone will. I love my characters and I hope readers do as well. What’s the next project that you’re working on? I am currently working on the next two books in the series and then a newer contemporary rocker romance. What’s the best piece of advice that you have been given in regards to your writing? That I actually can write! Seriously, my second semester in college I was told by a professor that I would never make it in the world of Literature and here I am, a self-published author with a few 5 star reviews. That’s enough for me J :) ![]() Today I have someone very special for you on the blog. The very awesome Simon Wilson. Amazing writer of one of my favourite books on authonomy at the moment- Ghost City Girl. It's a quirky mix of horror, Japanese, sci-fi and dark humour. I'll be honest with you, if he doesn't get this book published- I'll eat my hat! Read his interview and then pop on over to authonomy to have a read of it and his other novel; See you when the World ends. http://authonomy.com/books/47059/ghostcitygirl/read-book/#chapter He just made the Harper Collins Editors Desk yesterday, so be sure to give him a big congrats, if not for this achievment, then for the birth of his son! The Interview![]() Name:Simon Paul Wilson Website: http://spwwriter.weebly.com Where did you grow up? A small town called Tamworth in England. It’s near Birmingham. When did you start writing? I started writing seriously in 2001, but I had been jotting down ideas for stories since around 1992. What made you start writing? I started playing Dungeons and Dragons, and other RPG’s, when I was 13. The games were expensive back then, and not so easy to buy in my home town, so I started writing my own adventures for us to play. When me and my friends ‘grew-up’, I missed creating worlds, characters and twisted plots, so decided to turn my imagination and hand to novel writing. Is it something that you have always wanted to do? Not really. My first ambition was to be an astronaut! The idea of being an Author came much later. What is your favourite genre to read, and do you have any favourite books or authors you would like to recommend? I like many genres, but I have a soft spot for horror and sci-fi, especially if is weird! I also have a passion for Asian literature, especially Japanese and Chinese. My favourite author is Haruki Murakami. To me, this guy is a genius, and for my writing to be sometimes compared to his is a huge compliment. What about to write? I like to write quirky fiction, a self-created genre! I guess my writing has elements of lit-fic, horror and sci-fi, with a splash of humour. I can’t seem to stick to one style when I write! Do you write full time? If not, what do you do? To write full time is the dream! At the moment, I am an ESL teacher in South China. Do you ever base your characters on anyone that you know, or are they solely from your imagination? The character ‘Pixie’ from ‘Yuko Zen Is Somewhere Else’ was inspired by real events and a person I saw on the metro one day. Apart from her, all of my other characters are from my imagination, I think! Tell us about your latest book. The story/plot.
My latest book is called ‘GhostCityGirl’. It’s set in Japan in the year 2155, a hundred years after Tokyo was devastated by a ghostquake. The story is from the viewpoint of a young girl called Kichi. And tells of how she gets involved with conspiracies, ancient rituals and the end of the world. I don’t want to say too much, in case of spoilers! What gave you the idea? Like I said, I’m a huge fan of Japanese literature. I also adore Asian horror and anime, especially the dark stuff. I thought I’d try my hand at writing a book that was influenced by the the kind of things I like to watch and read. What genre is it? I call it Wasabi-punk! I guess it’s a mix of horror, sci-fi and some dark humour. Who is your favourite character? I would have to say Kichi. She’s a lot of fun to write. I think she develops a lot during the course of the story, especially when all Hell breaks loose. And worst? The Blood Daughter, She is evil incarnate, and then some. What are your hopes for it? Of course, I’d love to get this one published. I feel it would make a great film too. I can just imagine people wearing WasabiDogs T-Shirts and going to Halloween parties as Nil-by-mouths! What’s the next project that you’re working on? My next project is a YA horror called ‘Something Weird’. Not going to say too much about it right now, except that I am very excited about it! What’s the best piece of advice that you have been given in regards to your writing? A good friend told me to ‘‘Keep on writing and love what you write’’. I think this is sound advice. After all, if you think your book is the best thing since sliced bread, maybe other people will too. |
