Yes, I did need to shout that. Because this lady is Hannah Trank, sister-in-law to the very talented author Tracy Ward, but even more importantly, this is Hannah's first book!

Born and raised in Eugene. I graduated from a local highschool in 2011 and have been out of school since. My whole world revolves around my family, pets and art. For a long time I stuck to drawing and painting, but last year decided to try a new form of art, writing. Immediately, I fell in love with it.

Are We Dead Yet? Excerpt

“Ari,” Finn had my face cupped between his hands, staring intently into my eyes. “Are you listening?”

            “No,” I muttered. Although my eyes were aimed at him he wasn't what I was staring at. It was like I was staring through him and at our impending doom.

            “We're gonna be okay,” he promised. “We're gonna make it.”

            “You don't know that,” I felt a single tear escape my duct and roll down my face.

            This was too much. I've been afraid before, but this feeling was new. This was more than fear, this was hopelessness. The feeling I've done all I could to avoid was quickly taking over. It engulfed me, trapping me in it's cold, dark clutches.

            “Listen to me carefully,” he let go of my face and pulled me into his arms, squeezing tightly, “you can do this. We can do this!”

            “No,” I buried my face into his chest keeping my arms straight at my sides, “not this.”

            “Shut the hell up!” His deep, calming voice rouse into a stern yell. “Where's the girl from before, the girl that wanted to cave my face in for giving up, the girl that suffered so much loss but each time bounced back stronger than before? Where's the girl that went through hell and back, defined the odds and managed to find someone who everyone thought to be dead just because she had hope he was still alive? This is not the girl I know. This is not the girl I've fallen in love with!”

It's been a year since the infection started. Ariel and her small group have been working their way up the Oregon coast line every since. It was a fairly straight routine, scavenge, kill, and sleep. Until Finn shows up bringing along with him a whole new mess of problems, proving that zombies aren't always the worst thing out there and when you combine them with what is, you get a chaotic mess of death, betrayal, and hopelessness.
