Spears Amazon Author’s Page | Facebook Title of your book in the event: Sanctuary from the Dead (Books of the Dead 1) In fifteen words or less tell us about the book: Surviving the zombie apocalypse while trying to maintain your humanity. Thinking about the particular zombies that you write about, what do you think your chances of survival against them would be? It’s only because of my advanced state of paranoia that I think I would have a decent chance of surviving, but the fact that I have very little practical skills that reduce my chances. I can tell decent stories and jokes, though, but I fear the currency for those skills will not be a hot commodity in a zombie filled world. What would be your zombie apocalypse theme song? We Will Rock You by Queen Who would be your zombie apocalypse survival partner? Celebrity or not. I was hoping you would let us pick an imaginary partner. I’d pick someone like Ripley from the first Alien movie or Alice from Resident Evil. I need a butt-kicking survivalist by my side. Of course, my wife might object to the fact that I’ve picked women. To be safe and help me survive the real world I inhabit now, let’s go with Ash from Army of Darkness. Sanctuary From The Dead Excerpt & Book Cover

She was waiting for the blond woman who didn’t know how to use the catalog to get the hell out of there. After all Dylan was waiting for her to get off work, it was their fifth date and Hannah had bought new underwear for the occasion. She smiled dreamily to herself imagining how it would happen. She wanted it to be in his car. He had an old, black impala with a big back seat. They could use the front seat too, however it happened, she was more than prepared for it. If she could just get that woman to leave. The library job was a sweet gig, most nights she was out of there by eleven except for during exam week, that was always hellish, but it was expected. Weekend nights were the best though, she could close up as early as seven if no one had been there for an hour or more. She was always gone by nine. The library didn’t close until eleven, but she never had to worry about that. She checked the time, quarter past ten, and flipped her hair impatiently. What in the world did that woman want to read so much about anyway? She decided to go find out. “How are you doing ma’am?” She asked demurely as she walked up behind the blond lady, she was almost hidden from view by the stacks of books she had pulled down. Hannah frowned at those stacks, it would take her forever to get them put away. “I’m wonderful, thank-you. What time do you open tomorrow?” “Seven.” “And what time do you close?” “Weekends we close at eleven, ma’am” “And what time is it now?” “Twenty after ten.” “Is it really that late?” the woman looked startled as she raised her head from the pages for the first time. “Yes ma’am, I’m afraid it it.” “Fiddlesticks!” the exclamation made Hannah snort with laughter and she quickly pretended to have a coughing fit. “Are there any late night cab services?” “Of course, would you like the number?” “I don’t have a phone.” “Oh, well, I suppose I could call them for you.” “Would you mind? That is terribly nice, thank-you so much!” “No problem at all.” Hannah walked back to the front desk and phoned the cab company, the woman began sorting piles, adding the largest stack to the returns cart, but she set aside about six books, then gathered up her purse and jacket before carrying those books to the counter. “I’m so sorry I kept you here so long!” “It’s no trouble at all” Hannah lied through her teeth, her date was pretty well ruined at this point. “Would you mind putting my name on these? I’ll be back in the morning to go through them some more.” “Sure, no problem!” “Thank-you!” and with that, the blond woman was finally gone. Hannah, yanked her phone violently from under the counter and dialed Dylan. “Babe? Are you still up for it?.....You’re the best! Meet me out front in ten?” She hung up and squealed in delight, kicking back her left foot as she spun in a gleeful circle. Tonight was definitely the night. She quickly scribbled down a name and “blond woman” on a post-it that she tossed on the pile of books the lady had left. She would do the rest in the morning, since she was there all day it wouldn’t matter. Hannah practically flew out of the front doors and as she turned, too quickly, to lock them she twisted her ankle falling backward down the large stone steps. There was wet, crackling, thud as her head hit the pavement. Hannah felt the thick ooze of blood in her hair, oddly she thought of how disappointed she was that she had never been brave enough to dye it red before her eyes closed in the welcome fog of death. “OH MY GOD! Hannah! Hannah!” There was a noise, and a scent that drew her back from the comfort of her dark nothing, and Hannah opened her eyes, she saw the source of the noise and the scent. There was a creature, leaning over her, she grasped the creature and drew it towards her, hungry for that smell, the need drove her, and she was biting down into soft, warm flesh. She ate until it stopped making sounds. The K.R.
